# CVE-2022-24816: OSGeo GeoServer JAI-EXT Code Injection Vulnerability - Exploited (CISA KEV): yes, added 2024-06-26 - Published: 2022-04-13 - CVSS: 10 CRITICAL (v3.1) - EPSS: 99.9% (100th percentile) - CWE: CWE-94 JAI-EXT is an open-source project which aims to extend the Java Advanced Imaging (JAI) API. Programs allowing Jiffle script to be provided via network request can lead to a Remote Code Execution as the Jiffle script is compiled into Java code via Janino, and executed. In particular, this affects the downstream GeoServer project. Version 1.2.22 will contain a patch that disables the ability to inject malicious code into the resulting script. Users unable to upgrade may negate the ability to compile Jiffle scripts from the final application, by removing janino-x.y.z.jar from the classpath. ## Edge WAF coverage (claimed by vendors, not measured) | Vendor | Status | First rule | Days after publication | |---|---|---|---| | Cloudflare | Before feed history | — | — | | AWS | No public claim | — | — | | Microsoft Azure | No public claim | — | — | | Google Cloud | Before feed history | — | — | | Fastly | Before feed history | — | — | | F5 | Before feed history | — | — | | Akamai | No public source | — | — | | OWASP CRS | Before feed history | — | — | ## Our test (measured) - OWASP Core Rule Set 4.25.0, paranoia level 1, anomaly threshold 5, default CRS settings: blocked (1 of 1 requests blocked), template CVE-2022-24816, 2026-11-02 - OWASP Core Rule Set 4.25.0, paranoia level 2, anomaly threshold 5, default CRS settings: blocked (1 of 1 requests blocked), template CVE-2022-24816, 2026-11-02 "No public claim" means no vendor statement names this CVE; "Before feed history" means the CVE is older than the vendor feed.
