# CVE-2022-41352: Synacor Zimbra Collaboration Suite (ZCS) Arbitrary File Upload Vulnerability - Exploited (CISA KEV): yes, added 2022-10-20, known ransomware use - Published: 2022-09-26 - CVSS: 9.8 CRITICAL (v3.1) - EPSS: 95.5% (100th percentile) - CWE: CWE-22 An issue was discovered in Zimbra Collaboration (ZCS) 8.8.15 and 9.0. An attacker can upload arbitrary files through amavis via a cpio loophole (extraction to /opt/zimbra/jetty/webapps/zimbra/public) that can lead to incorrect access to any other user accounts. Zimbra recommends pax over cpio. Also, pax is in the prerequisites of Zimbra on Ubuntu; however, pax is no longer part of a default Red Hat installation after RHEL 6 (or CentOS 6). Once pax is installed, amavis automatically prefers it over cpio. ## Edge WAF coverage (claimed by vendors, not measured) | Vendor | Status | First rule | Days after publication | |---|---|---|---| | Cloudflare | Before feed history | — | — | | AWS | No public claim | — | — | | Microsoft Azure | No public claim | — | — | | Google Cloud | Before feed history | — | — | | Fastly | Before feed history | — | — | | F5 | Before feed history | — | — | | Akamai | No public source | — | — | | OWASP CRS | No public claim | — | — | ## Our test (measured) - OWASP Core Rule Set 4.25.0, paranoia level 1, anomaly threshold 5, default CRS settings: passed (0 of 1 requests blocked), template CVE-2022-41352, 2026-11-02 - OWASP Core Rule Set 4.25.0, paranoia level 2, anomaly threshold 5, default CRS settings: passed (0 of 1 requests blocked), template CVE-2022-41352, 2026-11-02 "No public claim" means no vendor statement names this CVE; "Before feed history" means the CVE is older than the vendor feed.
