# CVE-2024-4068: Memory Exhaustion in braces - Exploited (CISA KEV): no - Published: 2024-05-13 - CVSS: 7.5 HIGH (v3.1) - EPSS: 1.5% (74th percentile) - CWE: CWE-1050 The NPM package `braces`, versions prior to 3.0.3, fails to limit the number of characters it can handle, which could lead to Memory Exhaustion. In `lib/parse.js,` if a malicious user sends "imbalanced braces" as input, the parsing will enter a loop, which will cause the program to start allocating heap memory without freeing it at any moment of the loop. Eventually, the JavaScript heap limit is reached, and the program will crash. ## Edge WAF coverage (claimed by vendors, not measured) | Vendor | Status | First rule | Days after publication | |---|---|---|---| | Cloudflare | Before feed history | — | — | | AWS | No public claim | — | — | | Microsoft Azure | No public claim | — | — | | Google Cloud | Before feed history | — | — | | Fastly | Before feed history | — | — | | F5 | Rule published | 2025-01-21 | — | | Akamai | No public source | — | — | | OWASP CRS | No public claim | — | — | ### F5 - 2025-01-21 · updated · rule 200012089 > Updated: signature 200012089 "Micromatch ReDoS" (Denial of Service, risk High), systems: Node.js.
